No. 19 - Duet - Ruth and Willie - "Cupid does not marry."

MIDI File

Ruth: When your heart begins to flutter
And your head begins to whirl,
Look out, my boy, take care.
You should recognize the symptoms
Of an overdose of girl.
Beware, young man, beware.
If you find your heart entangled
In the meshes of a curl,
Don't imagine you've a mortgage
Or an undiscovered pearl.
She's a hummer in the summer,
But you cannot overcome her,
For Cupid cannot catch the summer girl.
Both: Oh, Cupid is a foxy boy.
He knows what he's about.
He gets you into awful scrapes
But never gets you out.
If e'er he coaxes you to wed
You'll find it wise to tarry.
Do ev'rything that Cupid does,
But Cupid does not marry.

Willie: When you meet a chap who tells you
That he's never loved before,
Look out, my girl, take care.
Just remember that he's said it
To a dozen girls before.
Beware, my girl, beware.
If he swears that he adores you
With a passion quite sublime
And says if you refuse him
It will drive him straight to crime,
When he springs that hocus pocus
Tell him that he's out of focus,
For he does it just to pass away the time.
Both: Oh, Cupid is a foxy boy.
He knows what he's about.
He gets you into awful scrapes
But never gets you out.
If e'er he coaxes you to wed
You'll find it wise to tarry.
Do ev'rything that Cupid does,
But Cupid does not marry.
