Doll: What's this? What's this commotion?
An arrest! I have a notion!
Chorus: An arrest! An arrest!
Doll: An arrest I have a notion!
Chorus: What is this? An arrest!
Doll: What does all this mean?
Chorus: What does all this mean?
Men: An arrest!
Doll: Who is this?
Chorus: Who is this?
Doll: Who's this?
Lovelace: I have him now! I have him now!
The highwayman! the prize is mine!
Quiller: I have him now! I have him now!
The highwayman! the prize is mine!
Chorus: The highwayman for whom they sought
At last is found, at last is caught!
Doll: At last he's caught!
Lovelace: The prize is mine!
Chorus: At last is found and caught!
Constance: Not so!
Chorus: At last he's caught!
Lovelace: 'Tis I who won the thousand pound.
Quiller: You're wrong! 'Tis I!
Constance: No! no!
What I? What I? a highwayman?
You surely can't mean that. Ha! ha!
What I? What I? a highwayman?
You can't be such a flat. Ha! ha!
I'm not the man you're after.
Excuse my mocking laughter.
Ha! ha! ha! Ha! ha! ha! Ha! ha! ha!
Girls: He's not the man you're after.
All: Excuse our mocking laughter.
Ha! ha! ha! Ha! ha! ha! Ha! ha! ha!

Quiller: Who are you then,
If you're not the man we seek?
Chorus: Who then?
Lovelace: Yes, you are, you fellow?
Speak! Speak! Speak!
Constance: But why?
Doll, Lovelace & Quiller:
  Yes, yes, who are you?
Speak, pray speak!
Chorus: Speak! Tell who you are, pray you speak!
Constance: Who am I? Who am I?
In London ask the wise or ask the witty.
Can you ask, who am I?
I'm well known in the Court and in the City.
Can you ask...
Chorus: We pray you tell.

Constance: In gaming or duello
I'm a very ready fellow
As any rival gallant is aware.
To hold my own I'm able
And my cronies at the table
Are under it before I turn a hair.
At cards I love a battle,
I adore the dice's rattle;
A gallop steeple-chase I prize;
But other things above I most love love,
And a pretty pair of sparkling eyes.
O! vive! vive! la bagatelle!
Drive dull care away.
Youth cannot last, they say,
So love then while you may.
Chorus: Vive! vive! la bagatelle!
Drive dull care away.
Constance: Live while you live, I say!
Vive la bagatelle!

Constance: I like the dainty kisses
Of a darling little Duchess
Who married with her ducal liege for gold.
I like the rustic fairy who is duchess of a dairy
And who believes whatever she is told.
I soothe the jade that's naughty
And I tame my lady Haughty.
Caprice have I for siren or for shrew.
I've person, purse and pelf to amuse myself,
And there's nothing else in life to do.
O! vive! vive! la bagatelle!
Drive dull care away.
Youth cannot last, they say,
So love then while you may.
Chorus: Vive! vive! la bagatelle!
Drive dull care away.
Constance: Live while you live, I say!
Vive la bagatelle!
