No. 5 - Song - Capt. Sheridan and Chorus

MIDI File

Basses: We come, we come to the sound of the drum
All eager for battle's orgies;
We come to deal hot shot or cold steel
For our honor and for King George's;
With a rat-tat-tat, and a plan-plan-plan
We come to fight for the King, for the King,
As Britons do when leal and true
We loudly, proudly, proudly sing,
We loudly, proudly sing:
Sopranos: One, two; left, right; one, two; left, right!
Primly the goose-step marking;
All: The bugle shrill each heart must thrill,
Men: Left, right!
All: As his Majesty's defenders come:
One, two; left, right; one, two; left, right!
Fighting the foe or larking;
None life enjoys as the soldier-boys
Who follow at the tap of the drum;
Who follow at the tap of the drum;
Who follow the drum.
Capt. Sheridan: Ready to charge when the die is cast;
Chorus: Ready to charge!
Capt. Sheridan: Ready to kiss ev'ry damsel who is pretty;
Ready to laugh when the canteen's pass'd,
Chorus: Ready to laugh!
Capt. Sheridan: Whether the jest be dull or witty;
Never a girl in old Scotland dwells;
Chorus: Never a girl!
Capt. Sheridan: Never a maid or a lass in Britain,
Who, when a dashing soldier tells stories of love,
Stories of love, will give the mitten.
Chorus: Treacherous enemies quake and shake
Only to hear a British cheer!
Capt. Sheridan: Willing to tackle 'em one to ten!
Stranger alike to care and fear;
I'm a dashing, plucky, happy-go-lucky
Rollicking Grenadier;
Ready to rush on a craven foe,
When such an enemy is near;
I'm a ranting, tearing, devil-may-caring,
Rollicking, rollicking Grenadier;
A rollicking Grenadier;
Chorus: Willing to tackle 'em one to ten!
Stranger alike to care and fear;
He's a dashing, plucky, lucky Grenadier;
Capt. Sheridan: A rollicking Grenadier;
Chorus: Grenadier,
All: A Grenadier.
One, two; left, right; one, two; left, right!
Sopranos: Primly the goose-step marking;
All: The bugle shrill each heart must thrill,
Men: Left, right!
All: As his Majesty's defenders come:
One, two; left, right; one, two; left, right!
Fighting the foe or larking;
None life enjoys as the soldier-boys
That follow at the tap of the drum!
