No. 11 - Song - Janet and Chorus

MIDI File

Janet: There was a merry miller of the Lowland I've been told,
Girls: A very merry miller as you see,
Men: Ha, ha!
Janet: Who never cared a rap for love but mickle cared for gold;
Tenors: Oh, the rusty dusty miller,
Janet: Mickle cared he for his siller.
Girls: For the very merry miller, lads sing hey!
Janet: The Miller's pow was grey and old was he, they say,
But he must go a-courtin' of a summer's day,
And who should he pick out (the lad was full no doubt)
But Margery, the tavern maid?
Chorus: What Margery?
Janet: Ay, Margery, the pouting, flouting Margery;
The laughing chaffing Margery
Wi' all her smiles and winks, the minx;
She married him for siller,
The rusty dusty Miller,
Ha, ha, ha, ha! Ho, ho, ho, ho!
She married him for siller and his cake was dough.
Chorus: What Margery?
Janet: Ay, Margery.
Chorus: The pouting, flouting Margery;
Ha, ha, ha, ha! Ho, ho, ho, ho!
She married him for siller and his cake was dough.

Janet: Oh Margery, the tavern maid, she was a merry wife,
Girls: A very merry wifey as you see,
Men: Ha, ha!
Janet: The miller puir unlucky soul he leads the de'il's own life;
Tenors: It's a rusty life she leads him,
Janet: It is little that she heeds him.
Girls: For the life his wifie leads him, lads sing hey!
Janet: The way she flirts and gads with all the likely lads
Is very wrong; they say she has a kiss for all,
That's what a man must get who weds a sad coquette
Like Margery, the tavern maid?
Chorus: What Margery?
Janet: Ay, Margery, the pouting, flouting Margery;
The laughing chaffing Margery
Wi' all her smiles and winks, the minx;
She married him for siller,
The rusty dusty Miller,
Ha, ha, ha, ha! Ho, ho, ho, ho!
She married him for siller and his cake was dough.
Chorus: What Margery?
Janet: Ay, Margery.
Chorus: The pouting, flouting Margery;
Ha, ha, ha, ha! Ho, ho, ho, ho!
She married him for siller and his cake was dough
