No. 20 - Topical Trio - Pumpernickel, Aufpassen and Stephan

MIDI File

Aufpassen: Just suppose that I am going to arrest you;
Do you follow me?
Pumpernickel & Stephan:
  We see your point of view.
Aufpassen: As policeman with my little club I beat you;
Do you follow me?
Pumpernickel & Stephan:
  We quite agree with you.
Aufpassen: If to hit a p'liceman back again you dare,
I drag you to the station by the hair;
And you're booked for "sault and battery" for fair;
Do you follow me?
Pumpernickel & Stephan:
  Why certainly we do.
Pumpernickel: It's just as clear as day.
Stephan: There's not a chance to doubt it;
Pumpernickel: Turn it over as you may.
Stephan: There is no argument about it.
Aufpassen: If you ask a civil question of a copper you have met,
He will answer with a club, for that's his only etiquette;
And you'll have to pay a fine or thirty days you're sure to get,
Am I right?
Pumpernickel & Stephan:
  Why of course, my boy, you're right!

Aufpassen: Just suppose a lady passes, smiling sweetly;
Do you follow me?
Pumpernickel & Stephan:
  No, no, we follow her.
Aufpassen: And she looks as if you won her heart completely;
Do you follow me?
Pumpernickel & Stephan:
  Why certainly we do.
Aufpassen: You invite her in to dine at a café;
She wins your young affections right away;
Then she says goodbye, you miss your watch next day,
Do you follow me?
Pumpernickel & Stephan:
  Did that occur to you?
Pumpernickel: It's just as clear as day.
Stephan: There's not a chance to doubt it;
Pumpernickel: Turn it over as you may.
Stephan: There is no argument about it.
Aufpassen: If you find again the lady with the fair deceiving face,
And you ask about the ticker, if you can with any grace,
Look out then for a libel suit or breach of promise case,
Am I right?
Pumpernickel & Stephan:
  Why of course, my boy, you're right!
