No. 34 - Song - Madame Amelie - "Mon Militaire"

MIDI File

Madame Amelie: Mon militaire, big and brave,
He means to try the married bliss,
But oh, ma foi! he must behave
In very diff'rent style to this!
He'll have to mind his Ps, and Qs,
And to his wife, attentive be,
And yet I think he won't refuse
The chance of flirting still with me.
Hélas! to think her horrid cash
Has bought his lovely long moustache!
Hélas! I might have known it!
To think that she,
to think that she should own it!
But oh! my lady rich and fine,
Tu n'es pas mariée encore,
And he may yet be mine,
Mon ami que j'adore!
But oh! my lady rich and fine,
Tu n'es pas mariée encore,
And he may yet be mine,
Mon militaire qui j'adore!

  I wonder does he recollect
The jolly days he spent with me?
Perhaps it was not quite correct,
But oh! what fun it used to be!
We promenaded arm-in-arm
Along the Boul'vard bright and gay,
And he profess'd to find a charm
In ev'ry word he heard me say.
Hélas! to think I lose him now,
Because he takes the marriage vow!
La femme brings him riches,
But Amélie, yes, Amélie bewitches!
But oh! my lady rich and fine,
Tu n'es pas mariée encore,
And he may yet be mine,
Mon ami que j'adore!
But oh! my lady rich and fine,
Tu n'es pas mariée encore,
And he may yet be mine,
Mon militaire qui j'adore!
