No. 15 - Duet - Meebles and Hughie - "Sporty boys."

MIDI File

Hughie: When two young fellows like us
Go out upon the spree —
Meebles: We'll wear an air
That's devil-may-care,
As rollicking as can be.
Hughie: We'll hang the bloomin' expense
And order lots of fizz.
Meebles: In fact, I'll do my best to show
That I'm a gay Lotherio,
(Whoever the gentleman is!)
Both: We'll be sporty boys!
Rollicking rorty-torty boys!
Painting the town a regular red,
(Or any old colour we jolly well please,)
We'll have a high old time,
And make no end of noise!
Hughie: We'll give the flappers the gladsome eye.
Meebles: I've never done it, but still I'll try.
Hughie: We'll "rag" the waiters, we'll sing and shout!
Meebles: And keep on throwing the bread about!
Both: Oh, never were such a pair of sporty boys!

Hughie: Just show them how you can dance,
For I'll take no excuse;
Meebles: My clothes tonight
Are rather too tight
For going upon the loose.
Hughie: You'll have to chat to the girls
And give them lots of chaff.
Meebles: D'you think they'd like that anecdote
About the sailor and the goat?
It used to make grandmother laugh.
Both: We'll be sporty boys!
Rollicking rorty-torty boys!
Painting the town a regular red,
(Or any old colour we jolly well please,)
We'll have a high old time,
And make no end of noise!
Hughie: We'll dance all night till the daylight shows.
Meebles: My shoes are pinching me round the toes.
Hughie: Oh, we'll be breezy and bright and gay.
Meebles: I hope my braces will not give way.
Both: Oh, never were such a pair of sporty boys!
We'll be sporty boys!
Rollicking rorty-torty boys!
Painting the town a regular red,
(Or any old colour we jolly well please,)
We'll have a high old time,
And make no end of noise!
Hughie: The girls are making a fuss of you!
Meebles: I smiled at three and I winked at two!
Hughie: I like the look of the one you've picked!
Meebles: Oh, I say, Hughie, d'you think I've clicked?
Both: Oh, never were such a pair of sporty boys!

Chorus: They'll be sporty boys!
Rollicking rorty-torty boys!
Painting the town a regular red,
(Or any old colour they jolly well please,)
They'll have a high old time,
And make no end of noise!
The dear old gentleman wants to try
To give the flappers the gladsome eye.
They'll "rag" the waiters, they'll sing and shout!
And keep on throwing the bread about!
Oh, never were such a pair of sporty boys!
They'll be sporty boys!
Rollicking rorty-torty boys!
Painting the town a regular red,
(Or any old colour they jolly well please,)
They'll have a high old time,
And make no end of noise!
The dear old gentleman wants to try
To give the flappers the gladsome eye.
They'll "rag" the waiters, they'll sing and shout!
And keep on throwing the bread about!
Oh, never were such a pair of sporty boys!
