No. 19 - Song - Dulcie and Chorus - "Oh, so gently."

MIDI File

Dulcie: When Gustave proposed to me,
He went down on bended knee,
And he whispered, oh, so gently;
oh, so gently, oh, so gently.
Girls: Gustave whispered, oh, so gently;
Dulcie: Then I answered "yes."
Gustave, when that "yes" he heard,
Said, "I'll hold you to your word."
Then he held me, oh, so gently;
oh, so gently, oh, so gently.
All: Gustave held her, oh, so gently,
And the rest you'll guess.

Dulcie: At the wedding, goodness knows,
I was blushing like a rose,
I responded, oh, so gently;
oh, so gently, oh, so gently.
Girls: Said she'd love him, oh, so gently;
Dulcie: Honour and obey.
All in white I look'd so nice,
Down my back they dropp'd some rice,
Mother whispered, oh, so gently;
oh, so gently, oh, so gently.
All: Pa threw slippers, not too gently,
When they drove away.

Dulcie: When the train began to start,
Gustave said, "At last, sweetheart."
I said, "Gustave, please go gently;
please go gently, please go gently."
Girls: She said, "Gustave, please go gently."
Dulcie: Gustave said, "Just one."
Oh, the journey was divine,
On that sweet South Eastern line,
For that train went oh, so gently;
oh, so gently, oh, so gently.
All: Shunting up and down so gently;
Oh! it was such fun!

Dulcie: Gustave bought a motor car,
He said we should travel far,
I said, "Gustave, do go gently;
do go gently, do go gently."
Girls: She said, "Gustave, do go gently."
Dulcie: Or you will annoy.
Rude police behind a tree,
They said, "Come along with me."
I said, "Gustave, please go gently;
please go gently, please go gently."
All: Now then Gustave, please go gently,
Au revoir, dear boy!

Dulcie: Gustave took me out to sup,
Gustave drank some champagne cup;
I said, "Gustave, please go gently;
please go gently, please go gently."
Girls: She said, "Gustave, please go gently."
Dulcie: Gently did I frown;
In the street that winter's night,
Gustave started to recite,
I said, "Gustave, do go gently;
do go gently, do go gently."
All: She said, "Gustave, do go gently."
Gustave then sat down.

Dulcie: I've a handsome cousin Fred.
Gustave said he'd shoot him dead;
I said, "Gustave, shoot him gently;
shoot him gently, shoot him gently."
Girls: She said, "Gustave, shoot him gently."
Dulcie: Don't shoot unawares;
When I told dear Freddie so,
Freddie thought he'd better go;
I said, "Freddie, please go gently;
please go gently, please go gently."
All: She said, "Freddie, please go gently;
Down the kitchen stairs."
