No. 18 - Recitative and Duet - Anne and Sir Philip - "The Parting"

MIDI file

Lady Anne: 'Tis hard that I should bid thee go;
Alas! sweetheart, it must be so.
But doing so I do but prove
That I am worthy of thy love.
Sir Philip: Bid me go, and I will leave thee,
Bid me stay, and I will stay;
Ever shall my heart receive thee
As its monarch to obey.
Lady Anne: Go, gallant heart, where duty calls thee,
Though my grief no words can tell;
And whatever fate befalls thee,
Rest assur'd I lov'd thee well!
Sir Philip: I live for thee, to do thy pleasure,
Both: And though my coward heart rebel,
Obedience still shall be the measure
Of my true love, farewell! farewell!
Go, gallant heart, where duty calls thee,
Though my grief no words can tell;
And whatever fate befalls thee,
Rest assured I love thee well!
Once more, farewell!
Sir Philip: Go! fare thee well!
Lady Anne: Once more, farewell!
Both: Once more, farewell!
fare thee well!
