British Musical Theatre

Celebrating British Musical Theatre through the Early 20th Century
A Part of the Gilbert and Sullivan Archive

While the Gilbert and Sullivan operas have prospered and are alive and well more than a century after their birth, most of the other British Musical Theatre through the First World War has been largely forgotten today. This section of the Gilbert and Sullivan Archive is dedicated to this large body of musical theatre, much of it quite excellent, and some deserving revivals today.

Similarly, there are a large number of neglected shows which received their premieres in the United States. Many of these can be found in a companion section, American Musical Theatre.
