No. 15 - Song - Edith - "Trust Me."

MIDI File

Edith: When a man goes wooing,
He's hard to understand;
Takes so much construing,
He's so underhand.
While she's as good as ever
Girl was meant to be,
Still he trusts her never,
Tho' she says, says she:
"Trust me, just me,
Now don't you think you can;
I'll do nothing wrong,
My love is strong,
So you must trust me, just me;
I'll frown on ev'ry man,
If you just, and you must,
Trust me."

  When she's once consented
She will be his wife,
Has he quite repented
Of his wicked life?
Oh! she would not deceive him,
Still she wonders so:
Can she quite believe him
As he whispers low —
"Trust me, just me,
Now don't you think you can;
I'll do nothing wrong,
My love is strong,
So you must trust me, just me;
I'll be a model man,
If you'll just, and you must,
Trust me."

Both will soon discover
Neither one is true--
She has got a lover,
He's got one or two.
Well, make a fresh beginning,
Vow to flirt no more,
Give up all your sinning,
Say, as once before —
"Trust me, just me,
Now don't you think you can;
I'll do nothing wrong,
My love is strong,
So you must trust me, just me;
I'll try a diff'rent plan,
If you just, and you must,
Trust me."
