No. 12 - Duet - Harry and Lionel - "Though you may choose."

MIDI File

Harry: Though you may choose your future bride
I do not dread what you may do.
It seems our views must coincide,
For I would wed the lady too.
Lionel: But think not, pray, your claims I own,
Although you dare to talk of love.
For come what may, she's mine alone,
And this I swear by Heav'n above.
Harry: It's beyond my comprehension
Why it should be your intention
Thus to have recourse to fighting
on a pleasant winter morning.
Lionel: Never mind about the season,
I have got sufficient reason,
And you'l find it most exciting,
So I give you ample warning.

Harry: Young sir, you seem to be annoy'd,
And pleased to sneer at my expense.
Such self esteem proves you devoid
Of tact, I fear, and common sense.
Lionel: You mock me yet, but we shall see;
The point today let us decide.
You may regret; come follow me
Where honour may be satisfied.
Harry: It's beyond my comprehension
Why it should be your intention
Thus to have recourse to fighting
On a pleasant winter morning.
Lionel: Never mind about the season,
I have got sufficient reason,
And you'l find it most exciting,
So I give you ample warning.
Harry: Well sir, if you will insist,
Lionel: Surely he cannot refuse,
Harry: I'll be your antagonist,
Lionel: 'Twas the only course to choose,
The only course to choose,
The only course to choose.
Yes, I am resolved to fight,
Draw and God defend the right,
Harry: I'll be your antagonist.
