MIDI File

Guy: It's time that a rapid departure we took;
I've one idea only and that's a
Suggestion to fly with those coupons of Cook!
To Venice, St. Mark's and Piazza!
Winifred: We're sure to be safe on its famous canal,
Concealed in a gondola gliding.
Flipper: But if those musicians detect us, we shall
Get worse than a hiding for hiding!
All three: To Venice! To Venice!
The boat is at the quay!
The captain will surely accommodate three!
He'll quite understand it's
To baffle these bandits,
We hasten to Venice,
To Venice the queen of the sea!
Chorus: To Venice! To Venice!
The boat is at the quay!
The captain will surely accommodate three!
He'll quite understand it's
To baffle these bandits,
We hasten to Venice,
To Venice the queen of the sea!
Tamarind: My feelings I cannot express!
She's bolted — there isn't a doubt of it!
As you've got me into the mess,
I'll thank you for getting me out of it!
Carmenita: We'll follow wherever they go —
I'll just put a hat and a wrapper on;
It wouldn't be proper, you know,
Unless the poor girl had a chaperone!
Tamarind: But ere we fly
'Twere best for both
That you and I
Should plight our troth!
Carmenita: Oh! dear one, hush!
Though olive-skinned,
You make me blush,
My Tamarind!
Chorus: How sweetly trips a lover's bliss!
To pairs of lips and one long kiss!
How sweetly trips a lover's bliss!
And one long kiss!
Dorothy: Can anyone tell if my brother's been here,
Or where that most fickle of men is?
Alice: He's gone with the singing girl down to the pier,
They're bolting...
Chorus: Bolting?
Alice: ...together
Chorus: Together? Where?
Alice: To Venice!
Chorus: To Venice, to Venice the queen of the sea!
Dorothy: Far away o'er the sea
Venice the wonderful lies,
Of the waves bride is she,
Blue are her beautiful skies,
And 'tis there we would go,
there we would make our home.
Hear how the soft winds blow,
Greeting across the foam.
Chorus: Hark to the song of the surf on the shore —
Winds that are ever greeting,
Waves that are ever beating;
Whispering secrets unwhispered before —
Told by the tideless sea.
Hark to the echoes that wake from the caves —
Sinking away and swelling
louder again and telling
Tales that they learn from the gossiping waves,
Roaming unfettered and free.
Far away o'er the sea
Venice the wonderful lies,
Of the waves bride is she,
Blue are her beautiful skies,
And 'tis there we would go,
there we would make our home.
Hear how the soft winds blow,
Greeting across the foam.
Carmenita: Oh! here's a nice to-do;
The boat's gone off without us.
Tamarind: And here's your gipsy crew —
They're sure to set about us!
Pietro: Clearly that dashing young don
Can't be depended upon.
Flirting is funny; but where is our money?
And where is our singing girl?
Musicians: Where is our singing girl?
Chorus: Gone!
Pietro and Musicians: What?
Where is our singing girl?
Chorus: Gone!
Pietro: Misery, agony, woe!
After the villain we'll go!
Corpo di Baccho!
We'll get on his track-oh!
And hurry from Corsica!
Musicians: Hurry from Corsica!
Paloni: No!
Pietro and Musicians: Not!
Paloni: Hurry from Corsica!
Chorus: No!
Pietro: Tell us the truth if you dare —
And when did your charge of her cease?
Answer at once or I swear —
Carmenita: (spoken) Tamarind help me! Tamarind help me!
Pietro: (spoken) Police!
Chorus: Misery, agony, woe!
Just as they're anxious to go,
Corpo di Baccho!
To get on his track-o!
The signor Paloni says "No!"
Pietro and Musicians: Damn!
Chorus: (shouted) No!
Signor Paloni says: (shouted) "No!"
All: Venice! To Venice!
The boat is at the quay!
The captain will surely accommodate three!
He'll quite understand it's
To baffle these bandits,
We hasten to Venice,
To Venice the queen of the sea!
Far away o'er the sea
Venice the wonderful lies,
Of the waves bride is she,
Blue are her beautiful skies,
And 'tis there we would go,
there we would make our home.
Hear how the soft winds blow,
Greeting across the foam.
