Filming The Mikado

Lovers of Gilbert and Sullivan will wait with interest for the first showing of the film version of "The Mikado"

A member of the company, fully made up, is photographed for future reference.

Oval: Geoffrey Toye, of Covent Garden and d'Oyly Carte, the producer (right) and Victor Shertzinger examine a musical instrument for the film.

Ernest Westmore, make-up expert from Hollywood, is seen adjusting a wig for Martyn Green, who plays Ko-Ko, and (left) touching up Elizabeth Paynter's eye-brows.
This is how Kenny Baker, who plays Nanki-Poo, has to rest when he's in costume. Judging by his smile, he finds leaning as comfortable as sitting.
