Gilbert and Sullivan Archive

Score Sources

You can purchase copies of Princess Ida scores from the following locations. They offer online, or at least e-mail, ordering, and shipment to anywhere in the world.

  • The Gilbert and Sullivan Archive Edition. New performing edition of the vocal score of Gilbert and Sullivan's Princess Ida including all the spoken dialogue. The earliest published sources have been consulted whilst compiling this edition, but it takes account of the performing tradition of the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company, and it includes the spoken dialogue. The accompaniment has been partly revised to reflect important orchestral passages previously neglected by published scores.
The score is annotated where it deviates in substance from the score and libretto published in the authors' lifetimes.
  • Chappells of Bond Street, now at 152-160 Wardour Street, carry the scores for all 13 G&S operas and are willing to ship them anywhere in the world. Their telephone number is +44(0) 20 7432 4400.

  • Christopher Browne's Gilbert & Sullivan Catalogue — Many different items, including books, libretti, sheet music, postcards, posters and recordings.
