Derek Booth (1967-72)

Tenor Derek Booth trained at the Manchester School of Music before joining the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company chorus in July 1967. He became an understudy to principal tenor roles, appearing on occasion as Ralph Rackstraw in H.M.S. Pinafore (1968-71), Cyril in Princess Ida (1969-70), Mr. Box in Cox and Box (1970-72), Frederic in The Pirates of Penzance (1970-72), Nanki-Poo in The Mikado (1970-72), Richard Dauntless in Ruddigore (1970-71), Marco in The Gondoliers (1970-71), and Colonel Fairfax in The Yeomen of the Guard (1971-72). For his last two seasons with the Company, he assumed the small roles of Leonard Meryll in The Yeomen of the Guard and Francesco in The Gondoliers on a regular basis. He left the D'Oyly Carte organization in August 1972.

Derek Booth was a member of the English National Opera chorus for a number of their productions including The Mikado (1986-87), Princess Ida (1992-93), and The Mikado again (1996-97).
