THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY

Marion Grahame as Patience in Patience

Marion Grahame (1881-84)

[Born London 1858]

Marion Helen Grahame made her first appearance in a D'Oyly Carte program in March 1881 with Mr. D'Oyly Carte's "B" Company in the soubrette roles of Constance Partlett in The Sorcerer and Hebe in H.M.S. Pinafore. In September of that year she switched to principal soprano, replacing Ethel Pierson as Aline and Josephine.

In November 1881 Miss Grahame transferred to Carte's No. 2 "Patience" Company in the title role. She played Patience with that Company until February 1884. Then from March 3 to December 6, 1884, she played Phyllis in Iolanthe for Carte's No. 1 "Iolanthe" ("F") Company. When that Company was disbanded she left the D'Oyly Carte organization.

She later appeared in London as Alice in Fay o'Fire, a romantic opera by Henry Herman and Edward Jones (Opera Comique, November-December 1885).
