THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY

Walter Hann

Walter Hann (a.m.d., 1910; m.d., 1911, 1913-19)

Walter Hann was briefly assistant musical director for the D'Oyly Carte Principal Repertory Opera Company in October 1910, and perhaps for some time thereafter. He appears in programs as musical director on at least two occasions in 1911 (March and November), and from April 1913 onward. When François Cellier retired as musical director in May 1913, Hann formally assumed that position. He served as musical director until September 1919, when he was replaced by Geoffrey Toye for the London Repertory Season.

In 1923, Hann toured the Far East as musical director with J. C. Williamson's "Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company."
