THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY

Florence Hyde (1879)

[Born Birmingham c.1859, died Bathampton Weir 29 Jun 1879]

Florence Mary Hyde was the daughter of a Birmingham professor of music. Before joining the D'Oyly Carte organization she appeared with the Durand and Carl Rosa Opera companies.

Miss Hyde was a chorister in H.M.S. Pinafore with the Comedy Opera Company's touring "B" Company in June 1879. That month she, fellow choristers Robert Ives and Annie Walsh, and baritone John Le Hay were involved in a boating accident on the River Avon. Both Miss Hyde and Mr. Ives were drowned.
