THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY

George Kay as Felicien in Veronique

George Kay (1914-15, 1919-20)

George Kay was a baritone chorister who had two engagements with the D'Oyly Carte organization bracketing World War I. He was with the D'Oyly Carte Principal Repertory Opera Company from some point in the 1914-15 season, and appeared on at least one occasion in December 1915 as Antonio in The Gondoliers before leaving at the end of the month.

Kay rejoined the Carte organization after the war, serving in the chorus of the D'Oyly Carte "New" Opera Company and filling in from time to time as Giorgio in The Gondoliers (October-December 1919 and July 1920).

Prior to his D'Oyly Carte service, Kay had toured in Messager's comic opera Veronique (1912), in which he appeared as Felicien.
