Kate Lovell (1882-83)

[Born Upper Clapham, London 1853, died Worthing 12 Aug 1915]

Kate Lovell Meadows was engaged by D'Oyly Carte to play Katrina (a village flirt) in a December 1882-July 1883 tour of Planquette's Rip Van Winkle. It was her only D'Oyly Carte role.

In a touring career in light opera that spanned two decades and three continents she took at least one role in Gilbert & Sullivan, as the Plaintiff in Trial by Jury, while in Australia in 1886.

She later appeared in London as Sally in a single matinee performance of Crazed, a one-act "musical absurdity" at the Opera Comique, March 22, 1894.
