Gertrude Macaulay (1897)

[Born Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire 1864, died Kensington, London 16 May 1937]

Contralto Gertrude Macaulay created the part of Duchess Gonzara in His Majesty with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company at the Savoy, February-April 1897. She was in the chorus for the May 1897 revival of The Yeomen of the Guard and the revised production of The Grand Duchess of Gerolstein in November of that year. As understudy to Rosina Brandram, she filled in on at least one occasion as Dame Carruthers in Yeomen.
