THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY

John Matthews (1887-91)

John Matthews was a chorister and understudy with Mr. D'Oyly Carte's "C" Company in 1887, filling in briefly as Robin Oakapple in Ruddigore in November, following Henry Lytton's transfer to "E" Company. Matthews later appeared with "E" Company himself, from April 1888 to April 1891. His only regular named part those years was First Yeoman in The Yeomen of the Guard, though he filled in for Lytton as Jack Point in Doncaster in September 1889.
