THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY

Nellie Stewart (1910-11)

Nellie Stewart was a chorister with the D'Oyly Carte Principal Repertory Opera Company for at least a portion the season spanning July 1910 and June 1911.

(There was a prominent Australian prima-donna named Nellie Stewart (1858-1931) whose career overlaps that of the D'Oyly Carte chorister. That lady, who played many Gilbert & Sullivan soprano roles in her native Australia, nearly had a D'Oyly Carte engagement in 1891, claiming in her autobiography that she was initially offered the title role in The Nautch Girl at the Savoy.)
