George Straughton (1921-27)

Bass-baritone George Ward Straughton served as chorister and small part player with the D'Oyly Carte "New" Opera Company from June 1921 until June 1927, when the "New" Company was disbanded. During his tenure he appeared regularly as Second Yeoman in The Yeomen of the Guard (1921-23 and 1924-25) and Bob Beckett in H.M.S. Pinafore (1923-25), and less frequently as the Associate in Trial by Jury (on occasion, 1921-22) and Old Adam Goodheart in Ruddigore (January 1927).

Straughton was married to fellow D'Oyly Carte chorister Jennifer North. He also spent a portion of his career with the Carl Rosa Opera Company.
