THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY

Douglas Ward (1935-36)

Tenor Douglas Ward was a chorister with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company from August 1935 to June 1936. During his season with the Company he appeared regularly as First Yeoman in The Yeomen of the Guard and Francesco in The Gondoliers.

After leaving the D'Oyly Carte he appeared briefly in London as an extra in the "imaginary adventure in play form" A Bride for the Unicorn (Westminster, July 1936), and, later, as a Singing Lord in Shakespeare's As You Like It (Adelphi, 1938). After the war, Ward has stints at His Majesty's, in the chorus of Brigadoon (1949-50), and the Coliseum, as chorus master for Guys and Dolls (1954).
