No. 5 - Quintet - Millicent, Diana, Hughie, Burridge & Meebles
Millicent: | This is the day of young folks, There's not the slightest doubt of it; The old folks are quite out of it, They've not an earthly chance. |
Hughie: | Old folk are rather sleepy, It does no harm to wake them up, We take them up and shake them up; And lead them such a dance. |
Diana: | Yes, that is so. |
Millicent: | It's very true. |
Burridge: | The young 'uns know |
Meebles: | A thing or two, They know far more than me or you! |
All: | When youth begins to play its tricks, The old folks must look pretty smart, Or soon they'll find they're in a fix, And fairly landed in the cart. It's just the same at ev'ry game Wherever o'er the world you roam; With cheek and confidence sublime The young 'uns get there ev'ry time. They absolutely put the lid on The old folks at home! |
Millicent: | This is the day of young folks; The money they can spend a bit, The old folks have to lend a bit, Ah! yes, indeed they do! |
Hughie: | All very well to grumble, But still I understand, mama, That grandpapa and grandmama Paid lots of bills for you. |
Diana: | Oh, youth today |
Millicent: | Will seldom slip |
Burridge: | It bolts away |
Meebles: | Without the whip, The old folks get the blessed pip! |
All: | When youth begins to play its tricks, The old folks must look pretty smart, Or soon they'll find they're in a fix, And fairly landed in the cart. It's just the same at ev'ry game Wherever o'er the world you roam. The young 'uns seem to set the pace, You play the king: they play the ace, They absolutely put the lid on The old folks at home! |
