Dr. Brierly: | Oh, my daughter, there's a creature known as man, |
Rose: | Oh, papa, that is exactly what I guess'd! |
Dr. Brierly: | And a girl is bound to catch him if she can. |
Rose: | Dearest father, I shall do my very best! |
Dr. Brierly: | It's a task to which my darling isn't used — |
Rose: | But she'll prove a ready pupil as you'll see. |
Dr. Brierly: | Will you show me how you'll act when introduced? |
Rose: | It depends on who the gentleman may be. |
Dr. Brierly: | If he has't got a sou, What will Rosy-Posy do? |
Rose: | She will treat the person so! Just like that — don't you know! |
Dr. Brierly: | But suppose the case should be That he rolls in L.S.D.? |
Rose: | Then a smiling face I'll show, More like that — don't you know! |
Both: | And if anybody asks us what we're at —

Dr. Brierly: | Oh, my daughter, you are young, but you're discreet. |
Rose: | Oh, papa, I've learnt a thing or two from you! |
Dr. Brierly: | You must try to bring a suitor to your feet. |
Rose: | That's exactly what your pet intends to do. |
Dr. Brierly: | When you get him safely down upon his knees — |
Rose: | Here's the interesting portion of the plan — |
Dr. Brierly: | Tell me what will be the next proceeding, please? |
Rose: | Oh, papa, I really don't know how I can. |
Dr. Brierly: | If the wealth you're ask'd to share Of a love-sick millionaire? |
Rose: | My approval I will show Just like that — don't you know! |
Dr. Brierly: | But suppose the heart you've won Of a needy younger son? |
Rose: | I shall quickly bid him go, More like that — don't you know! |
Both: | And if anybody wonders what we're at —

Dr. Brierly: | Oh, my daughter, pray select a man of wealth, |
Rose: | Oh, papa, I'll take the richest I can get. |
Dr. Brierly: | For I'm old and rather failing in my health — |
Rose: | You're remarkably sharp-witted dear, as yet. |
Dr. Brierly: | If you wed some rich and open-handed man — |
Rose: | He will make a little settlement on you. |
Dr. Brierly: | Well, I hope to get a trifle if I can. |
Rose: | Dearest father, I am quite aware you do! |
Dr. Brierly: | If a suitor never comes Where will father pick his crumbs? |
Rose: | To the Music Halls I'll go, Doing that — don't you know! |
Dr. Brierly: | You might try a little dance That I saw, when young, in France. |
Rose: | Do you think they did it so? More like that — don't you know! |
Both: | If the County Council asks us what we're at —
