No. 20 - Carnival Chorus

MIDI File

Chorus: Let folly reign supreme today,
For carnival is holding sway,
And who for sober sense would care
When mirth and music fill the air?
But human nature's never slow
To don a mask or domino,
And underneath the summer sun
To join the frolic and the fun.
Now who is he do you suppose,
Disguised in that enormous nose?
A nobleman for all we know,
Perhaps a Prince incognito;
An agitator out of work;
A greatly over-married Turk;
But let us not in error fall,
Perhaps he's no one after all!
But let us not in error fall,
Perhaps he's no one after all!
Perhaps he's no one after all!
Ladies: With fairest of flow'rs
We open the battle.
Men: Confetti in show'rs
Give answering rattle.
Ladies: With bud and with blossom
We're pelting you faster!
Men: The sweets that we toss 'em
Are nothing but plaster.
Ladies: With weapons so tender
We fight con amore.
Men: We'll never surrender
Till covered with glory!
Ladies: A sense you'll be brought to
Of gentlemen's duty.
Men: You mean that we ought to
Surrender to beauty?
All: Let folly reign supreme today,
For carnival is holding sway,
And who for sober sense would care
When mirth and music fill the air?
But human nature's never slow
To don a mask or domino,
And underneath the summer sun
To join the frolic and the fun.
Now who is he do you suppose,
Disguised in that enormous nose?
A nobleman for all we know,
Perhaps a Prince incognito;
An agitator out of work;
A greatly over-married Turk;
But let us not in error fall,
Perhaps he's no one after all!
But let us not in error fall,
Perhaps he's no one after all!
Perhaps he's no one after all!
