No. 16 - Song - Delia and Chorus of County Ladies - Take me for...

MIDI File

Delia: There lived a little lady once,
As dull as she could be;
She often feared she might go mad,
So very dull was she.
One day she met a gentleman,
Alas! he proved to be
Not only very dull indeed,
But duller still than she!
At last she tore her hair,
And cried in sheer despair:
Take me for a game of golf,
Take me for a walk!
Take me for a turn round the floor,
Or a tiny little talk!
Take me for a rink if you think
That the night is nice and cool,
Take me to be just as shy as can be,
But don't take me for a...
Sail in a yacht, 'cos I'd rather not!
Ladies: Take me for a game of golf,
Take me for a walk!
Take me for a turn round the floor,
Or a tiny little talk!
Take me for a rink if you think
That the night is nice and cool,
Take me to be just as shy as can be,
But don't take me for a...
Sail in a yacht, 'cos I'd rather not!

Delia: Now he was just as dull and dry
As seaweed in the hall,
So dull was he, he did not see
That she was dull at all!
Yet she was quite the dullest thing
That you have ever seen,
If she had been much duller,
Oh, how dull she would have been!
In vain the girl implored,
You can't think how I'm bored!
Take me for a game of golf,
Take me for a walk!
Take me for a turn round the floor,
Or a tiny little talk!
Take me to a bonnet shop, do,
There's a taxi in the rank;
And if you're in doubt
Won't you call and find out
How much you've got in the...
Cupboard for me, 'cause I'd had no tea!
Ladies: Take me for a game of golf,
Take me for a walk!
Take me for a turn round the floor,
Or a tiny little talk!
Take me to a bonnet shop, do,
There's a taxi in the rank;
And if you're in doubt
Won't you call and find out
How much you've got in the...
Cupboard for me, 'cause I'd had no tea!

Delia: It's dull to sit in Parliament,
Not speaking, week by week,
And yet perhaps it's duller when
You do begin to speak!
For some, the dullest thing is life,
For some, a comic play;
A wedding is a dull affair,
And so is Christmas day!
And this is how she felt
While at his side she knelt:
Take me for a game of golf,
Take me for a walk!
Take me for a turn round the floor,
Or a tiny little talk!
Take me on a train; it may rain,
But we'll neither care a scrap!
And if nobody's there,
And you think that you dare,
Oh! do take me on your...
Motor and ride with me side by side!
Ladies: Take me for a game of golf,
Take me for a walk!
Take me for a turn round the floor,
Or a tiny little talk!
Take me on a train; it may rain,
But we'll neither care a scrap!

And you think that you dare,
Oh! do take me on your...

Delia: Sometimes she tried to cheer him,
And to make his evenings bright,
She read Bradshaw aloud,
Except, of course, on Sunday night!
And in return, to buck her up,
He also did his best,
By telling her the date when he
Left off his winter vest!
And yet she was not glad,
She cried in accents sad:
Take me for a game of golf,
Take me for a walk!
Take me for a turn round the floor,
Or a tiny little talk!
Take me in a flying machine,
And go higher and higher and higher,
But if I hear you say
That we spooned all the way,
I shall only say you're a...
Dunce! For not trying to kiss me once!

But if I hear you say
That we spooned all the way,
I shall only say you're a...
Dunce! For not trying to kiss me once!

Delia: They sometimes went for walks, to make
Each other bright and gay;
One night she sang, And if
The others see, what matter they?
At this he sadly turned aside,
He could not stand the strain--
He looked up in her face and said:
I think it's going to rain!
Forgetting all her pride,
The poor girl simply cried:
Take me for a game of golf,
Take me for a walk!
Take me for a turn round the floor,
Or a tiny little talk!
Take me out to supper,
And when you've turned my dizzy head,
Oh, please ring the bell
At my charming hotel,
And take me up to my...
Mother, for she's sitting up for me!
