No. 7 - Song - Archie - "Everybody's awfully good to me."
Archie: | I'm an awf'lly simple fellow As I'm sure you'll all agree; And I really don't know what My various friends can see in me. My acquaintances are endless And their names I quite forget, For one half I only know by sight And the rest I've never met. But ev'rybody's awf'lly good to me, Don't you know; I'm just about as spoilt as I can be, Don't you know. If I go out, say to Prince's, and alone I chance to dine, Why, it's ten to one I meet some dear old Oxford friend of mine. Well, not only does he join me, but he orders all the wine! Ev'rybody's awf'lly good to me. Now I'm not a bit conceited, But of course I know my worth; I haven't got much genius, But I'm simply "full of birth;" I've got a bit of money, But my friends are not unkind, I think money's rather vulgar, But they don't seem to mind. Why, ev'rybody's awf'lly good to me, Don't you know; I'm just about as spoilt as I can be, Don't you know. I lent a chap a monkey once, Quite in a friendly way. D'you know he never bothers me With offers to repay; Why, he very kindly borrow'd something more the other day! Ev'rybody's awf'lly good to me. The other day out shooting I was standing near a friend; Some partridges came over, But they flew the other end; I tried to get a shot in, And I shifted from my place, When my friend quite gaily blazed away And got me in the face! Ev'rybody's awf'lly good to me, Don't you know; I'm just about as spoilt as I can be, Don't you know; It really was a most unpleasant thing to have occur'd, It was my fault absolutely For I quite obscured his bird. Still, he didn't lose his temper, why, he never said a word! Ev'rybody's awf'lly good to me. I know a little lady Who is absolutely sweet; I introduce her proudly To each decent chap I meet; They all say they're delighted, And it makes me feel so vain When I hear them make arrangements To meet very soon again! Ev'rybody's awf'lly good to me, Don't you know; I'm just about as spoilt as I can be, Don't you know; One day I introduc'd her to a friend of mine call'd Brown, Well, he actually look'd after her while I was out of town. It was so unselfish of him, for he's married too, is Brown! Oh, ev'rybody's awf'lly good to me. |
