Marion Battye (1949-53)

Marion Battye joined the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company as a chorister in January 1949, remaining with the Company until Autumn 1953. For a time she was Ann Drummond-Grant's understudy in the principal contralto roles, appearing on occasion as Ruth in The Pirates of Penzance (1951-52) and Katisha in The Mikado (1951-52 and 1952-53).
In March 1956 she appeared at the London Hippodrome as a singer in a musical play called Wild Grows the Heather, based on J. M. Barrie's The Little Minister.
