Doreen Binnion joined the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company chorus in September 1938 and served throughout the war years. In February 1940 she filled in for Ella Halman in three of the principal contralto's roles (the Lady Jane in Patience, Katisha in The Mikado, and Dame Carruthers in The Yeomen of the Guard) when the latter lady was off for a fortnight.

In March 1944 Miss Binnion deputized as the Lady Saphir in Patience before taking the role over herself the following season. In the 1945-46 season she added Kate in The Pirates of Penzance, Leila in Iolanthe, and Vittoria in The Gondoliers to her regular duties. She also filled in on occasion that season as Iolanthe in Iolanthe, Dame Carruthers in Yeomen, and Inez in The Gondoliers. She left the D'Oyly Carte organization in August 1946.
