Henry Blain (1920-31)

Henry Blain, whose real name was Henry Hussey Howell, joined the D'Oyly Carte chorus in May 1920, and served until June 1931. During his tenure with the Company, he played the small roles of Second Yeoman in The Yeomen of the Guard (1920-22 and 1924-26), Guron in Princess Ida (1922-28), and Luiz in The Gondoliers (1922-23 and 1924-25) on a regular basis. He also filled in on occasion as Second Yeoman (1923-24), Luiz (1923-24 and 1925-26), and Samuel in The Pirates of Penzance (1923-24). He was married for a period of time to Cecile (Cis) Blain, the D'Oyly Carte wardrobe mistress. (In some programs Henry Blain is referred to as James Blain.)
