THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY
Milroy Cooper (1883, 1884)
[Born Edinburgh 30 Aug 1847, died Hackney, London 18 Apr 1917]
William Milroy Cooper had two brief engagements as principal tenor with the D'Oyly Carte touring companies. From March to June 1883 he appeared as Ralph Rackstraw in H.M.S. Pinafore and Frederic in The Pirates of Penzance with Mr. D'Oyly Carte's "Pinafore" and "Pirates" Company, and from July to December 1884 he was Cyril in Princess Ida with Carte's "A" ("Princess Ida" No. 2) Company.
His only role in a London program appears to have been in The Circus Girl (Gaiety, 1896-98). He was the third of four artists to appear as Toothpick Pasha. Cooper continued to perform in the British provinces until at least 1907.
