Susan Jackson received voice training at the Royal Manchester College of Music.After her studies in Manchester she went to the London Opera Center where she spent three years at the school's center for advanced singers.She went on to sing with the New Opera Company at the Cheltenham Festival, at the Glyndebourne Festival, and on British radio and television where she appeared in The Marriage of Figaro.
She joined the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company in July 1967 as principal soprano, appearing as Phyllis in Iolanthe and Rose Maybud in Ruddigore that month.In September 1967 she added Patience in Patience and Gianetta in The Gondoliers to her duties, and from May to July 1968 appeared as Josephine in H.M.S. Pinafore.Beginning in September 1968, she played Josephine again, alternating with Valerie Masterson, then taking over the part upon Miss Masterson's departure in January 1969.Miss Jackson herself left the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company in August 1969.
She later sang on tour in A Waltz Dream, and appeared at the Players' Theatre, London, in Old Time Music Hall. Miss Jackson performed with several of her former D'Oyly Carte colleagues as the title character in Patience and as Phyllis in Iolanthe at Gawsworth Hall, Cheshire, in 1987 and 1988.
