Dudley Jepps (1896-98)
[Born Brixton 1864, died Billesdon, Leics. 1929]
Dudley Powell Jepps was a chorister with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company at the Savoy from July 1896 (revival of The Mikado) to July 1898 (through first production of The Beauty Stone).A prompt book for the Yeomen of the Guard revival (May-November 1897) tells us he was a citizen in that production.
It was as a song writer and conductor, using the name Dudley Powell, that he enjoyed his greatest success, with a provincial musical, The Dandy Doctor (1900), and also with pantomime and comic songs.
