Sallie Keates (1883, 1886-90)

Sallie Keates was a mezzo-soprano and, later, a contralto chorister and understudy with at least three D'Oyly Carte touring companies in between 1883 and 1890. (Company records for this period identify her both as Sallie Keates and Pattie Keate.) Her first role was the Lady Angela in Patience with Mr. D'Oyly Carte's No. 2 "Patience" Company in August 1883. She later appeared with Mr. D'Oyly Carte's "E" Company in 1886 and Carte's "D" Company between 1887 and 1890. She deputized briefly as Katisha in The Mikado in May and November 1886 with "E" Company, and in September 1887 with "D" Company.
