Evelyn Kingsbury as Yum-Yum in The Mikado |
Evelyn Kingsbury (1887-88)
[Died 5 Apr 1936]
Before joining the D'Oyly Carte organization, Evelyn Kingsbury performed in what The Sketch described as the first grand "Pick Me Up" entertainment. She joined Mr. D'Oyly Carte's "C" Company on tour in 1887 replacing Margaret Cockburn as Rose Maybud in Ruddigore in November of that year. From December 1887 to February 1888 she may have joined a D'Oyly Carte touring company in Germany and Austria. Beginning in February 1888 she, and many members of that touring company, appeared with a reformed in Great Britain and Ireland D'Oyly Carte "C" (Repertory) Company. Her roles were Josephine in H.M.S. Pinafore and, beginning in March, Yum-Yum in The Mikado. She left the D'Oyly Carte when the tour ended in June 1888.
