Dorothy Kingston joined the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company in May 1932 as soprano chorister and understudy. In August 1933 she assumed the small roles of the Lady Ella in Patience and Kate in The Yeomen of the Guard. She also filled in from time to time as Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance (April and autumn 1933), Aline in The Sorcerer (1933-34), Patience in Patience (1933-34), Phyllis in Iolanthe (January 1933), Rose Maybud in Ruddigore (autumn 1933), Fiametta (January 1933) and Casilda (autumn 1933) in The Gondoliers. She left the D'Oyly Carte in June 1934.
Miss Kingston later turned to grand opera, appearing in Falstaff, Die Fledermaus, Le Nozze di Figaro, Faust, Don Giovanni, Gianni Schicchi, Carmen, Il Trovatore, and Fidelio with Sadler's Wells Opera between 1936 and 1940.
