THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY
Leonard Lees (1887-90)
Leonard Lees was a tenor chorister with a D'Oyly Carte Company that toured Germany, Austria, and Holland from April 1887 to February 1888. He later performed with the D'Oyly Carte at the Savoy during the first runs of The Yeomen of the Guard (October 1888-November 1889) and The Gondoliers (beginning December 1889). He assumed the small part of First Citizen in Yeomen in April 1889, and filled in briefly as Leonard Meryll in September of that year. It's unclear when he left the Company but he was not with them when The Nautch Girl succeeded The Gondoliers at the Savoy in June 1891.
His wife accompanied him on the 1887-88 continental tour as a fellow chorister.
