THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY
Gracie Lester |
Gracie Lester (1887-88)
Gracie Lester was a chorus member with D'Oyly Carte's first Continental touring company performing in H.M.S. Pinafore, Patience, and The Mikado in Germany, Austria, and Holland from April 1887 to February 1888. It appears to have been her only stint with the Carte organization.
She later appeared sporadically on the London Stage as Black Meg in Hall Caine's The Christian (Lyceum, December 1907), Lady Capulet in Romeo and Juliet (Princes, March-April 1913), Ulrica in an adaptation of Scott's Ivanhoe (Lyceum, May-July 1913), and Mrs. Gummidge in Walter Evelyn's adaptation of David Copperfield (Lyceum, June-July 1923).
