THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY
Frank Lewis (1902-03)
Frank Lewis's only known appearance on the London Stage was as an extra in George R. Sims & Clarence C. Corri's "military comic opera" The Dandy Fifth (Duke of York's, 1898). Lewis was a chorister and small part player with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company that toured South Africa from April 1902 to May 1903, appearing there regularly as First Citizen in The Yeomen of the Guard and in the dual roles of Calynx and Captain Corcoran in Utopia Limited. He also appeared on occasion as Major Murgatroyd in Patience and, possibly, as Bob Beckett in H.M.S. Pinafore.
