THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY
Arthur Lorraine (1880-83)
[Born London 29 Sep 1853, died Wandsworth, London 1897]
Arthur Lorraine was the stage name for Thomas Arthur Payne, whose short career as a singer spanned 1875 until around 1886. He appears to have spent a few years in the D'Oyly Carte organization in the early 1880s. He was in the chorus with Mr. D'Oyly Carte's "Second 'Pinafore' Company" in February 1880, and took his only named part as Mr. Wallaby in Desprez & Solomon's one-act companion piece Quite an Adventure with Carte's "Pinafore" and "Pirates" Company between January and September 1883. He was married to fellow chorister Lottie Carlotta.
