THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY
S. P. Norman (1881)
Mr. S. P. Norman was for several years affiliated with John Stetson's opera companies, appearing in New York on one occasion in Goodwin & E. E. Rice's extravaganza Evangeline (Booth's Theatre, December 1878-January 1879).
In late February 1881 Norman took over the part of Major-General Stanley toward the end of a tour with a D'Oyly Carte Company in The Pirates of Penzance in the eastern United States. After the tour ended we find a "Mr. Norman" (presumably the same gentleman) in the chorus with one of two R. D'Oyly Carte and E. E. Rice Opera Companies playing Billee Taylor in America in the spring of 1881.
