Suzanne O'Keeffe (1975-80)

Soprano Suzanne O'Keeffe joined the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company chorus in September 1975, appearing her first two seasons with the Company on occasion as Celia in Iolanthe and Fiametta in The Gondoliers, parts she would assume on a regular basis in August 1977. She added Ruth in Ruddigore to her duties when the supernatural opera was revived in December 1978, and assumed Kate in The Yeomen of the Guard in September 1979 following the departure of Patricia Anne Bennett. Miss O'Keeffe also filled in on occasion as Yum-Yum in The Mikado during her last two seasons with the Company (1978-80). She left the D'Oyly Carte in August 1980. She may be heard as Kate on the Company's 1979 recording of The Yeomen of the Guard.

After leaving the D'Oyly Carte Miss O'Keeffe continued to perform in theatre and pantomime, returning to Gilbert & Sullivan from time to time with "The Magic of D'Oyly Carte." She also did some teaching in her native Liverpool with the Merseyside Academy of Drama.
