After a short spell with the Carl Rosa Opera Company, Kathleen Lily Parkhurst joined the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company chorus in May 1935. In the 1935-36 season she sang the small part of Leila in Iolanthe while Elizabeth Nickell-Lean appeared in the title role for Marjorie Eyre. She left the the Company in September 1939, when the outbreak of war occasioned her employment by the British Ministry of Food.
Miss Parkhurst returned to the D'Oyly Carte chorus in September 1946, and for a while also played the piano at auditions and assisted in the training of new members of the Company. She left the D'Oyly Carte for the second and last time in July 1950.
