THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY
Lovell Phillips (m.d., 1895-96)
Lovell Phillips was musical director for the George Edwardes' Gaiety Company in 1888 and 1889, touring the British provinces, the United States, and Australia in that capacity. He later spent a little over a year as a touring musical director with the D'Oyly Carte organization:with D'Oyly Carte Opera Company "D" from October 1895 to November 1896, and with Company "C" for a few weeks in November-December 1896, replacing P. W. Halton, who has left for a D'Oyly Carte tour of South Africa.
He was probably the son of the better-known musician, conductor, and composer William Lovell Phillips (1816-60).
