Eric Poole was a bass chorister with the D'Oyly Carte "New" Opera Company from June 1921 to November 1923. From March 1923 onward he appeared as Counsel for the Plaintiff in Trial by Jury and Giorgio in The Gondoliers.
After leaving the D'Oyly Carte organization, he retained his interest in Gilbert & Sullivan and light opera generally. For over thirty years (1924-58) he regularly performed in and produced comic opera in North Cheshire, Northwich, Altrincham and elsewhere. In 1956 he produced Trial by Jury and The Pirates of Penzance for the Refuge Assurance Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society in Manchester, appearing himself as the Learned Judge in Trial.
