David Porter (1972-75)
Bass-baritone David Porter was as chorister and understudy with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company for the three seasons spanning September 1972 and August 1975. As an understudy, he filled in on occasion as Bob Beckett in H.M.S. Pinafore, the Pirate King in The Pirates of Penzance, the Earl of Mountararat in Iolanthe, and Go-To in The Mikado. During the 1975 Centenary performances he appeared as Mr. Blushington in the revival of Utopia Limited. He may be heard in that role in the D'Oyly Carte's Utopia recording released the following year.
Porter is married to D'Oyly Carte principal soprano Pamela Field. He is currently director of HiFi Western Limited, an electronic firm in Newport, South Wales.
